Is it me?

I think that they could run on just one screw when stealth was important, no doubt a similar arrangement to the XXI, with belt drives. But to run away? All three!

That would indeed make sense, though Russian subs often have 2 props, so they appear to be thinking that more props might help keep the sound down, or that the sea will make enough noise to make it impossible to hear a sub.
That noisy sea won't be something i would build my sub for, in tropical waters there is such little sound in the sea itself that a sub (not being a state-of-the-art diesel sub, those can sail up to about 8knots without making any sound at all untill the batteries run empty or the air needs refreshing) that a sub with 2 props might be very easily detected. Some more work done on the bow today to add some final texture of the sonar fairings and made the bottom of the bow straight. The plans showed the bottom with more of a bulb.
I wanted to thank Gantu who was kind enough to forward several new drawings over the weekend. |

Russian subs sounded like cement mixers underwater. Untill the "walker" class showed up in the 80's

For a better idea of scale, here's another photo showing the Foxtrot master on Rick's 1/48 bulk carrier along with another project he's started. Yes, that is a 1/6 scale action figure sitting on a Neger.

The Foxtrot kit has "officially" been listed on Rick's website http://www.rpmodeltech.com/ . This should prove to be a good project.

I just found my set of Jon Amdur 1/72 scale Foxtrot plans but now I guess I won't be needing them.

Welcome aboard Britt!
![]() I'm expecting some new pics from Rick this week. If anyone is interested in the Neger, I posted a thread over in the Scale Boating forum since its technically not a sub. Last edited by herrmill; Nov 21, 2009 at 06:07 AM. |
