Apollo Saturn V by Revell

Hello guys,

I've only been posting on the RC boat forum before, where I have done two builds, Billing boats "Banckert", and Robbe "Happy Hunter".

I just bought this:

From what I have understood this is a remake of a model available in the 70-ties...? Currently available as a limited edition.

This is the bigger 1:96 scale model. There is also a similar 1:144 scale model.

I hope I can post the build here, or is there a better forum for this?

Thanks
Andreas

that depends whether you plan for this to hover and land again vertically... rockets do take off and land vertically, but we tend to consider as valid only those landings that let you fly the plane again. I think that if you plan to build this as a flying model http://www.rcgroups.com/rocketry-242/ would be more appropriate. I fthis is going to be a static model then the "RC" prefix doesn't really fit well, I don't think there's a board for static models in rcgroups

In any case that's cool. We had a rocketry class in junior high. I don't know how the science teach talked the school admins into but it was fun. Build/launch every other day. And we got to chase them off campus into the neighborhood and cemetery. We did the Mach 1 rocket but the motor exploded right after launch, and I held the altitude record for the single stage B engine class.

I built that model back in 68-69, somewhere in there. The detail was pretty good, including folding petals in the third stage that revealed a lunar lander.

Good luck!

OK, I'm not going to make it RC.... So I guess this build doesn't fit this forum?

I am not sure. there's sections for freeflight, and that isn't really RC either

The stand, it's a great platform to build your model on.

Started painting the rivets... man this took a long time. Some errors can be seen in closeups, but on the model it looks good.

And a little bit later I was finished...

Building engines

Engines complete, added some detailing in gold.

Paint drying on the stabilizers.

Something to do when I wait for paint to dry... I don't go for maximum authenticity so I can be creative.

Engines mounted

We break for nobody! Looks massive

Slowly growing. The ring put on was a little tricky... it is a sheet that you fold up, but the fit is very tight, just have to be brave.

And back to masking and painting, there are some huge areas to paint on this model.

+1 http://www.rcgroups.com/rocketry-242/ Unless you're going to make that Saturn V beast do this

Delta Clipper Experimental Advanced (DCXA) (2 min 26 sec)

Stellar work!
One of the most impressive things I have ever seen was the Saturn V at Kennedy Space Center, you walk in the hanger and look up to see this massive engine the size of small house, then relize there is 4 more behind it! WOW
I you ever get the chance take the tour at KSC, its something you will never forget.
