Diesel Starting
Morning all from Hastings East Sussex. Got a problem with an MVVS 1.5cc diesel purchased on Ebay. It had not been run. Fuel tank is at correct height, prop is right size.
It will fire for a couple of seconds with priming in the carb intake but won't go when choked from tank. Needle valve has been adjusted both in & out, compression has been slackened right off and gradually increased but still no joy. It also spits out a fair amount of unburnt fuel from the exhaust. I have removed the silencer. I used to run diesels 40 odd years ago - well, there wasn't anything else then was there - but I've obviously lost the knack. Anybody out there give me clue as to what I'm doing wrong. Thanks in anticiapation. pedal |

Sounds like you are doing all the right things:
Can you see if the fuel is being drawn up the fuel tube? If the air bubbles don't move, the needle valve may be blocked up. Dismantle, inspect and clean. How old is the fuel? (does it work on other diesel engines?) Just my two pennyworth. Hope you get it sorted.Cheers Andrew |

have you checked the piston? or the piston cyclinder inside the engine unscrew the engine head and it should be there

First of all close the needle valve get a valve spout bottle and squirt some diesel into the port it should fire and run in short blasts.
Slacken off the compression then turn in until it fires when it does you have near enough got the compression right. Then open the needle valve 2 turns open and try from that setting to get her running. Tony |

Compression
Well we have one thing in common and thats the the 40 years ago. To your problem . There are several things that cause a diesel not to run Incorrect timing (in this type of motor we have no control) No fuel this relates to the type and mixtures along with settings (air fuel ratios) and last compression because it so hard to determine on old motors its the major problem . Because we turn them over when wet (Oiled up) they feel good when infact they are US. Hope you can solve your problem as you can see i'm of no help.
