Amazing pictures! How do you accomplish a photo like the one listed as 24a? Also, who makes that Daddy-O on floats? Your photos are awe inspiring.

Sean,
Right now there is only one Daddy-O on floats world-wide. Hopefully there will be more soon. Park Scale Models offers a laser cut kit for the Daddy-O with a 35-inch wingspan based on my original prototype featured in the June 2005 issue of Fly RC. It could be put on floats and I know that Zeke Brubaker, owner of PSM, is working on that now, among other projects. The Daddy-O shown in Stan's wonderful photos is my second one, 50% larger at 52.5 inches. Bill Stevens of Stevens AeroModel is working up a kit for one at this size and it will also be designed for wheels and floats. I can switch my model back and forth in just over 2 minutes. They are both great flyers, and you really can't go wrong with either one. I fly them both as often as I can get to the field. More (not as nice) photos and more info are available at http://www.gryffinaero.com/models/ffpages/rce/daddyo525. Thayer |

Thayer,
I had planned on picking up a Daddy-O from Zeke eventually. I don't think it is available on his site yet. My first kit was his Micro Squire Trainer. Really fun plane (my first to fly). I am still trying to decide on which plane to build next and all I know is that this will be a very hard decision to make. I think I will want every version of the Daddy-O. I love the way she looks. Amazing that you can switch between floats and wheels in such little time. The covering is beautiful also. Thanks for all the information. This site and everyone here is really amazing and helpful. Hi sean,
I know Zeke is very busy right now, and expect the DDO to show up there any day now. He had kits for sale at NEAT, so I think it is just a case of updating his web site at this point. Wheels to floats or back is as simple as spinning out 4 4-40 SHCS with a 3/32 ball driver swapping the gear, then running the screws back in. Could probably go faster if I wanted to use some sort of power driver. Thayer |

So cool. I just finished reading about the larger version as well. I have a habit of finding planes that I really want and compiling a file of all necessary components, electronics etc... I am almost finished with both files for the the Daddy-O's now! My only concern is my piloting abilitly. Can't wait to get my hands on both of them. Thanks again.

If you have flown anything with ailerons with any success you will be fine with a Daddy-O if you can keep it close to the design weights. It is one of the easiest flying models I have ever flown.
The only tricky aspect is that the landing gear is a little narrow if you tend to get sloppy on the ground. Maybe that's why I prefer flying my big one off floats! On the other hand, touching down near the stall speed it is going so slow that I can't imagine it getting hurt. Thayer |

Sweet. You might be talking me into to one sooner than later. StevensAero had a tutorial on choosing an electric power plant that I found by accident and I now think I understand these things on a very basic level. Thank you Thayer and thank you StevensAero!
I must say that it will be hard for me not to use a similar covering scheme to your red one. What can I say, red is my favorite color and your plane looks amazing. Thanks again and sorry for hijacking this thread Sean |
