Problems with Spektrum at IRCHA?

I am wondering. With as many pilots as there were at IRCHA this year, and a large number of them using the Spektrum radios, I wanted to know if there were any of the infamous "brown outs" or other equipment related troubles.

I know that there were several people claiming that Spektrum troubles plagued them at SEFF.

So, what's the final tally?

I think there were lockouts or something at Joe Nall.

Spektrum problems plague us where in western CO, where no one else flies. Are you thinking that there were too many channels used up at such a large event?

From what I have heard, it's just the opposite.

There are few cases of Spektrum problems.

I posted this question on a couple different forums, and there's debates about the potential issues with the system, there's the Futaba vs JR/Spektrum arguments, but there are no people that went to IRCHA, reporting any problems.

With upwards of 800 registered pilots (or was it 1000, I forget) you would have to expect many of them were Spektrum users, and with the laws of percentages, there should be as many problems as there were reported from SEFF.

But there doesn't seem to be.

It raises some interesting questions.

Ya most heli pilots know how to provided a good battery setup. And most heli pilots have extremely good setups. The only spektrum probblems ive seen go directly back to user error, and its typically user error in the setup process.

I dont believe you have the same scenario as SEFF and Nall, The reported shortcoming of the Spektrum system from a university proffessor in radio transmission and the like, using a new DX7 shows that the Transmitters ability to safeguard overlapping channels upon boot (Anti-Collision) up is really the best thing going for its interferrence rejection.

So it is very plausable on large flight lines and TX laying on ground, that during the boot up of a TX's at extreme ends to each other, that an overlapping channel can be picked by two TX, as the distance makes it hard for the TX to see the other, and when the model flies nearer to that overlapping channel the guide whatever is not so immune and it only takes one of the 2 freq to put the RX into shutdown mode, ie light OFF.

This condition is rare at most fields and in all the upfront testings of 40+ TX they basically are turned on in a range possible for the anti-collision of the TX to see them all. At home feilds yet again everyone basically is in a congested are to boot up thus the collision feature works. Even at E-fest with 300 pilots registered in a track and field house the Spektrum issues were no reported other than errant Vapors.

The test was repeatable and suggestion made as to why so close channel choices?

This of course is my own words Cliff Notes of how I interrpreted the test and the potential for failures, Of the relatively few reported failures in comparison the power supply brownout "BUG" had been ruled out as the most vocal ones had been flying same model for months prior to SEFF which should have shown the power grid problem.

I am going to an event this weekend with 100+ pilots across a 1200' long field in which the entire length is a flight line, no pilot stations, just step forward and fly, and the models fly the entire length, So with even more Spektrum this year than ever before I am anticipating some of this phenom to bite, we'll see.........
