Hot wire foam cutter power supply - Electrician needed!!!

I just built up an inexpensive power supply for my hot wire cutter using the plans here:

http://www.charlesriverrc.org/articl...amcutterps.htm

It works great, my question is I want to install a volt meter like I saw someone else do so I can get a more consistant output.

How do I hook up the 2 wires from the volt meter? Do I run each one of the wires on the volt meter to each of the wires on the output to the bow? ("across the two output wires). You don't put it "in line" do you? It also came with a resistor to go on one of the wires on the volt meter... does it matter which one?

Any help would be appreciated!
