That would be fine for cutting short sections of CF rod Kevin, but you will find it rather dangerous with long lengths of > 6".

I simply use my bare hands, take a deep breath and blow while spinning the rod with my fingers while slicing through with the cut-off wheel. The masking tape is so that you can keep track of where the blade is so it doesn't 'wander' about, has nothing to do with keeping the CF from delaminating while cutting.
