I guess it all depends on how complex you want to get. My hurricane has a 34" wingspan, about 180 sq in wing area, powered by a 370, and sits precisely at 15oz. However, that includes retracts and split flaps. Also that's with a standard sized rx (caseless, of course). Working from Earl Stahl plans is an excellent start as his planes are designed strong and light, it seems.

I've had a thought... the swift sits pretty low to the ground, doesn't it? You might want a smaller prop and lower gearing on the 300.
