I had another great time at the TCMAA club today at the ALES contest. I almost didnt go because of the forecast, but I'm glad I did.
Conditions were definitely on the rough side of good - cold, solid overcast and WINDY with gusts into the 20's and occasional very light rain.
Despite that, many of the guys were consistently finding lift just up-wind of the launch area. I suspect it was some mix of ridge, wave and thermal lift because it kept moving around from time to time.
It wasnt unusual to see several Radians all speced out at the same time - not circling, but just pointed into the wind and climbing like crazy.
On one of my launches I went straight into some of that lift and you can hardly tell on the graph where the motor shut off occurred!
I ended up - as usual - having a great time. Thanks guys!
Oh, and thanks to Mike for some great hot food!!!
Now, if you could just move the date for next months contest up to the 17th.....
