The scale wheel size is 60mm or about 2.5". I used a Sullivan Skylite. The axle is 5/32".
The radius of the wheel well was smoothed out to 3" using a sanding drum; the depth was bare minimum after all was done.
I thought the wheel well area was a bit weak, especially the liteply sides. There is going to be some stress on a small wheel and single axle from an 8-10 pound sailplane when the landing is hard. So I will be using 1/8" birch ply to beef up this area.

Wheel well end caps.
Wheel well liner from cross-grain 1/32" ply, and gluing plug cut and sanded to the proper radius, about 3".
Gluing in the well liner. Plug pushes the liner down all the way, with spacer and heavy weight to keep in place until dry.
And here is the enclosed wheel well. Some minor contouring will be needed on the front piece of ply so some side sheeting can flow over it.
Pattern for an additional 1/8" birch ply doubler for the exposed wheel well side. I don't think the existing 1/8" liteply is going to hold up on a hard landing; this should help.
Cut and finish the doublers together. I also drilled a slightly undersize hole (9/64" hole; 5/32" axle) through both to make it easier to get the wheel centered.
Axle doublers in place and wheel well finished.
Axle hole fitted to 5/32" axle and checked with 2.5" wheel. Also notice balsa filler and sanding of ply and filler ahead of wheel, ready for planking that area.
