probabilities of failure

i found this of interest regarding probabilities of failure of everything:


There is no such thing as 100% QA because QA does not and can not afford to test every item produced and even then if every item were to be tested a small proportion of product will fail soon after being placed in service and a small proportion will fail after long use. (Infantile and mature failures are the usual modes of failure unless physically damaged ).
