Forming roof for cabin.
Inside frame glued up, wax paper to prevent gluing to hull.
Another coat of spar varnish.
Initial fitting of roof.
Second layer of roof clamped down.
Cut tapered strips of cedar shake to make companionway rails.
Chunk of cedar to shape into companionway hatch. I don't recommend doing it this way, adds weight and hard to shape properly. Better to build a frame from balsa.
Cherry veneers clamped to carved cedar hatch.
Almost done, still have to make hatch handle. (and add lots more varnish) Balso soaks up varnish like a sponge. Sealed it first with a thinned 50/50 coat to keep the weight down.
Starting hatch handle in basswood.
Shaping to fit.
Roughed out balsa rudder blank.
Laminating cherry veneer to both sides of upper end of rudder for reinforcement.
View of rudder and partially shaped laminated tiller made from 7 laminations of cherry veneer.
Varnished base for future Brando stand.
