Joe.....good observation. I designed the models to accept off the shelf, 90 degree retracts to avoid expensive rotating units. The geometry works out great and the forward retraction allows the retracted gear to be mostly hidden by the nacelle. The full scale S-3 gear retracts aft, which I didn't want to do on the model because of the aft CG shift when the gear was retracted.
Good size wing the Viking is going to be a very big EDF Jet! Do you have a release date set for the S-3 are you going to release the 70mm first then the 90mm some time later?
I see your using the E-Flite electric retracts are they the 25-.46 or the 60-120? I installed a set of 25-46's in a 52" OV-10 Bronco you designed. They work great and have held up well. I put a 105deg retract unit in the nose that retracts forward like scale and the mains to the rear. This keeps the CG correct in both up and down positions so no trim changes need to be made.
