Sierra MYC Pond Report Jan 6, 2013

Yo Commodores!

Welcome to 2013 !!! Bill, Tim, Garth, Rick and I met up for breakfast at the Holiday Inn and jumped right into the spirit of trading stories and updating each other. Rick has sold his Fairwind to Gary. Gary was going to come down today but the idea of rain slowed him down. I am buying Ron's Cj. We talked about Ed and Kevins club and the fact that they have 4 Cj's too. The guys talked about a North South race with them, but we might want to see if we can get all four of ours on the water first that would be a great goal.

Bill gave us an update on a Hobie dealer (Matt) over in Morro Bay. I'm going to have to go over and check it out next week. Bill said they rent a Tandem Island and I would like to try that. I might also get some red plastic to help repair one of our Hobies in the club.

It was overcast and cold when we got to breakfast and we didn't know if it was going to be a shop day because they had forecast rain, but it was just cloudy. We saw the wind come up as we were sitting there and we figured we better go sail. So we packed up and headed to the pond.

Tim brought out his Vic, Rick had his Victoria too. Garth, Bill and I brought out ODOMS to sail. There was a lot of tuning going on as the sailing conditions from last week to this were very different. This week we had maybe 8mph winds at first.

Bill had brought some sailboat cookies and sat them way to close to me. It wasn't my fault! Thanks Bill and Lorena! The guys liked the ones I let get away!

I spent a bunch of time trying to figure out a lee helm, wind ward helm issue on different tacks. My boat must have caught this problem being too close to Garths boat. I'll work on it.

We didn't face any rain today, but we did sit with our backs to the wind and many had gloves on while they sailed. We had a couple of walk ups. One guys name was John and he just retired last year. He tried my boat for a bit and seamed to be ready to jump into the hobby. We will see.

The wind died around 2pm and we packed up and headed home. I'm ready for next week already. I think when we go up to Kaweah to sail Rc with our Three River friends. I'll hook up my AI for a chase boat just in case.

It was a great start to 2013. Thanks guys!

Rick
