They're a bit on the finicky side.... and you gotta find how to get the best orientation. They do get some interference, but since there are so many different Tx, Rx, goggles, wiring, etc combinations it would be hard to predict how it's going to behave on each application. Parts are fairly inexpensive and if you like tinkering with stuff like this, it's fun putting together. Those XBees look expensive @$75 and a bit more complex. I'd imagine someone who has some good knowledge of those could get them to work
