Ever see the episode of Top Gear where they compare some old super cars to a new Accord? The Accord blows their doors off in every aspect of performance. I wanted an old car before I saw that. Now, I'm looking to get a less than 10 year old 911.
The only reason to buy an old car is either for the styling, to have something unique you don't see everyday, something easy to work on yourself, or for nostalgia reasons that you couldn't afford it when you were younger.
Having owned older cars modern cars are much better in most every way, especially from a reliability standpoint.
