I think you can find that type of line at fishing tackle shop. One of the more popular lines is called Spectra - comes in different tests (strength) and colors. It is known not to stretch or absorb water. It is smooth as well so it slides through the fairleads and pulleys nicely. also sold at most tackle shops

I was cruising around E-bay and located this Pekabe item -477-Single-Compression-Strut-Model- which could make a super nice boom vang here's the link:
