Nope, there is a filter in the unit (the black material visible on the front) which cleans the air before passing it back out. Standard benchtop fume extractor setup. See here for a commercially made example : https://www.tessco.com/products/disp...&subgroupId=34
I use the same filters as the ones shown there.
