We lease this site from a local farmer and what you see in the field is his second cut of the season. I lost a plane back in the spring when the grass was about 5 ft. high and took about an hour to find it, so I can relate to the corn field issue. There have been several planes munched up by the hay bailer here.
The runway is actually some stuff called "petromat" it is a plastic woven fabric type material laid down over the ground. We just recovered it this year and it came out pretty good I think.
