The battery definitely needs to go on the bottom, the airplane is designed for that configuration. Play with the CG some too, at the proper CG it shouldn't have any coupling in knifeedge at all. Once you find the right spot for the battery, cut a slot in the bottom vertical fuselage for the battery so it doesn't sit to one side of the fuselage, you want it right in the middle.

With the A20-34S and TP 65C 3S 325mah packs, my battery is right behind the aileron servo and the CG seems great there.
