This discussion will go on and on because it is based on conjecture, semantics and anecdotal "evidence". The irony is that the air's momentum is not some mysterious quantity that defies quantitative analysis. If you roll up your sleeves and actually calculate the rate at which a steadily lifting wing transfers downward momentum to the air, many (if not all) of the apparent paradoxes and points of disagreement presented here are cleared up. Although certainly not troll-proof, the attached .pdf outlines how to calculate the air's rate of momentum change due to a steadily lifting wing. There is some significant math involved, but you can follow most of the discussion without the math.
