Blue Skies Over Utah 2012, August 11-12

UTAH DLG invites you to the second annual “Blue Skies Over Utah” F3K contest, August 11-12 in Vineyard UT (just west of Orem). Sponsored by South Davis Modelers (AMA Club #1401). We are proud to be part of the "4-corners“ Blue Skies series with NM, AZ, CO, and UT. The setting is a lovely sod farm nestled tightly between the shores of Utah Lake to the west and the spectacular 12,000’ peaks of the Rocky Mountains to the east. Field elevation 4524’. The grass is championship golf course quality. No shoes required! Considered by many to be one of the most beautiful F3K venues in the country.

With your participation, BSOUT can be a fully sanctioned two-day qualifier for both "USA F3K LEAGUE" Team Selection and "USA F3K TOUR" points. Experts and beginners alike are welcomed. Full lunch and light breakfast snacks will be provided both days, plus coolers full of cold drinks throughout. 8:00AM pilot's meeting with first flight shortly thereafter. Task list will consist of all the standard FAI F3K tasks, with the exact order to be announced at the pilot's meeting on Saturday morning. Standard throwout rounds will be calculated in the preliminaries, with top finishers advancing to the flyoff rounds. Awards will be given to the top 4 finishers of the flyoffs.

Entry fee $40 to cover costs of food & drinks, prizes, AMA sanction & insurance, portable restrooms, etc.; plus some land owner gratuity for letting us use their lovely property.

Vineyard Sod Farm is the location (MAP) (GPS: 40 18’ 13” N, 111 45’ 15” W). From the north, take I-15 to the Orem "800 North" exit (#272). From the south take exit #269 "University Parkway". We apologize in advance for all the road construction in the area (I-15 core project, due to end Dec. 2012!). Overnight camping is permitted at the field (self-contained only, no hookups or services). Conveniently located near a major metropolitan area, there are also many affordable hotels/motels, restaurants, and services of all types nearby. The field will be available for practice and clinics all day Friday August 10th.

Please pre-register in advance by clicking HERE to fill out and submit the form, and pay via the PayPal link on the confirmation page. Or post a message here, send me a PM, or whatever. Payment can also be made directly via PayPal to Or PM me for other arrangements. Nice to have this all done in advance to avoid the last minute hassle and money exchange at the field. Registration officially closes Sunday August 5th.

AMA membership required for all participating pilots. On-field signup will be available, but better to do it online (HERE) before the contest date. Be sure to bring your AMA number with you.

Please familiarize yourself with section 5.7 (Class F3K Hand Launch Gliders, pages 25-31) of the 2012 FAI Sporting code (HERE).

Our CD will be the one and only Jon Finch.
