You might try Weather Underground (wunderground.com I think). They have data from peoples' personal weather stations including current wind conditions. If someone with a weather station lives near there you can monitor their anemometer reading. If they live in a valley or behind trees, though, the readings might not be accurate.

Another good one is usairnet.com which presents detailed US Weather Service forecasts aimed at pilots, hang gliders, etc.
