Subtle - I always thought that the cheaper gyros were rate gyros rather than heading hold?
Either way, my little Litehawk Duo and larger Blade Rescue tandems both have very effective gyros that do allow straight-on ff, no shimmy, no wiggle.
The s022 took a lot more attention to stay on trajectory.
