Optima 6, 7 & 9 Ch Transceiver Firmware Update V2.02 07Oct'11

2nd June 2013 update extract from:
. Hitec HPP-22 2.4GHz Programmer - Manual, FAQ - How to Install & Use
Optima 7ch & 9ch Transceiver Firmware Update
If data port can be accessed, built in transceivers do not need to be removed from a model,
. Optima Transceiver - Update Firmware in situ and use of Extension leads with HPP-22
1. Open HPP-22 Program
2. Connect HPP-22 - wait
3. Select Receiver > Optima 7/9
(Screen will display sequential pictures of Optima 7 & 9 showing connections)
4. Connect Optima "Data" port to "P1" of HPP-22.
5. Connect a fully charged battery pack to battery port of Optima RX and turn on.
. SPC blanking plug must be inserted unless a second power source is connected to SPC port.
6. Screen will display/describe activity. (if no link with 9ch, retry connecting battery to ch6)
7. Do Not turn off / disconnect Optima RX`until transfer bar is complete and instruction received to confirm upgrade is to be finalised.
8. After confirming upgrade is to be finalised, and confirmation is received, turn off battery.
Disconnect lead from Optima and only then either close program or select new process:
Upgrade another Optima from step 3, a Spectra Pro Module or Aurora or Transfer files from an Aurora
NB: Connection must be performed in above order, If Optima turned on to soon. it may not be recognised.
9. Update Problems?
a). Check the SPC plug is inserted correctly.
b). Do not use ESC/BEC, ensure a fully charged receiver battery is being used.
(a 4 cell battery box for use with alkaline AA & a switch harness is enclosed with an A9 for the purpose of
updating/linking Optima used with EP models)
"Aurora 9 - Radio System Includes - Stylus, Screen cleaner, Flight Preserver, Battery Holder/Switch
for ID Setup in lieu if using an ESC/BEC & BODA Holder - see pictures."
c). If link is still not established with station, insert battery switch harness into the SPC port,
this provides power to the receiver only, bypassing any drain by bad servo or other connections.
Be careful, reverse polarity will damage the transceiver.
d). Some 9ch Optima for whatever reason may still not update, in which case unit must be referred to:

. Upgrade Optima 6 - Is It required?
Question was put to QA Korea 22Nov11 with response:
"Doubt upgrade would impact on Optima 6 used with EP Models - as advised, change related
primarily to interference caused by petrol ignition systems."

Optima Firmware history is as follows:
HPP-22 Software & Telemetry Updates

October 7th, 2011
Optima 2.4 GHz Receiver Firmware revision History

.Update 07 Oct 2011
V2.02 RX Firmware update now available

if interference or signal loss occurs vs. V2.01.
It is suggested that all users update to this latest version. - Mike"

. Optima Firmware Update In Situ
Q. Can Optima be updated whilst still within model?
A. Yes - as per manual USB lead should not exceed 3' (1m) nor lead to HPP-22<>Optima exceed 12" (300mm).
[Quote:
. Tried upgrading several RX in large models with a extension lead ex HPP-22 but system
would not recognise the transceiver.
. Changed USB lead to one with dual plugs to ports at rear of PC and system display
would flash accepted then change to an error message.
. Connected a separately powered USB hub inline to HPP-22, the short lead as supplied with HPP-22
and managed to update RX without removing them from models.
. If an extension lead is left attached to data port, suggest it be shortest possible and capped/labelled
to prevent other items, such as charging leads, being plugged in during a moments inattention.
The shortest possible copy of the original lead is best. One that has a similar S-01 servo plug at the free
end (to avoid bad connections & with protective cap,) so as to plug direct into HPP-22.- Alan T.

For optimum performance use:
"Current firmware for optimum performance:
. Aurora 9 V1.08(1) 10 July 2011
. Optic 6 Sport V1.04(1)
. Spectra 2.4Ghz Module firmware V3.01 18 April 2011
(How to update Hitec TX with fixed "modules" such as Optic 6 Sport & Optic 5)
. Optima 7 & 9 Ch Transceiver Firmware firmware V2.02(0) 07 Oct 2011
. HPP-22 Software Version 1.11.1 - October 24th, 2011 (Added Update Function for HTS-Navi)
"

The Aurora 9, AFHSS Spectra Module (whether used in Aurora or other transmitter) and Optima transceivers
must have compatible firmware to operate correctly.
If any one unit is reverted to an earlier version, then the others might also need to be changed,
likewise if one is updated, check the others are also compatible with the new version.
Current versions as above.

Not necessary to redo the ID-Setup (aka bind or Link).
AFHSS - ID_Setup (also known as Binding or Linking) & Range Test Procedure
- but perhaps a good opportunity to rescan for best setting for your field.
