If you fancy taking the gloss off a 'film covering, you'll get a more uniform finish if you do it to the 'film before applying it to the model.

One route to a pinted finish is to cover your model in a document laminating film - 'Doculam' is one brand name. This stuff is clear, but takes paint well and is cheap too.

I've sprayed Doculam with Krylon - didn't even bother cleaning one piece and I couldn't even sand the paint off
