Windows LIVE Movie Maker (WLMM) can edit the .MOV file right off the camera. It's a free download from the MS web site, but it's intended for use with W7 OS.
I am now also using AVI-Demux editor, a free equivalent to VirtualDub, but can import the .MOV directly. Like Vdub, it cannot do fancy transitions, etc. For sheer power at a bargain price, I highly recommend MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 17 (or 17 PLUS, with slightly more feautres
). But power and ease of use are somewhat mutually exclusive, so there is a learning curve.
