When I unwind the superthin wire I do it by hand and the bobbin I wind onto has a loose fit on a dowel. I twist the dowel so if the wire gets caught up or tangled the bobbin slips on the dowel.
You might be able to make something like that with a drill , the wire is really easy to break. The wax is a great idea to wind the
coils on. No fuss with keeping the flanges tight or pulling the straw from the bit. Allthough the most recent one I wound was pretty easy. The wax seems easier.
