I actually had planned on getting both the D5000 and the D90. The D5000 was a clear choice for AP as it weighs a lot less and the extra features of the D90 are not needed in flight. The D90 would replace my old D70 and be used for ground shots only ( The D90 is really my wife's camera
) Honestly, IMO you can't beat the D40X or D60 for DSLR AP.
