=== Ricco...Suave! ===
For whatever reason, I've always loved the little helis. Even the old days, I was quite proud of my .15-powered Cricket. Since my Shogun died, the biggest Heli I have is the King V2!

I just love how they're quiet, cheap, portable, and...well, a bit challenging!
I have eyed the Maxir for a LONG time. The problem was that it was a PITA to get parts. However, there are now multiple distributors, and I even have a local hobby shop that will start carrying parts, so I'm putting it on my list as the replacement to my HDX300. The Maxir (and the Ricco) have the following advantages over the usual Blade-CP/King crowd:
1: A REAL head. No twist or slop in that bad boy! And yet, it's clean.

2: Super light frame. The T-Rex 250 is impressive, but it's a piggy compared to the disc-loading of the Maxir
3: Shaft-driven tail, which has quite a bit less drag than a belt system. Somehow, I have never seen any of the 3 Maxir helis have the shaft-vibration issue that the Shogun V1 had.
4: One-piece main gear/crown gear makes for easy repairs and robust design. For some reason, the Compy is the only other heli to do this. Notice that it lets you put the motor on the underside far away from the gyro and receiver (to prevent electronic noise).

5: A REAL TAIL. I'm not kidding. They made it light too. Look at that beefy crown gear!

The only problem was that it was just far too cost-prohibitive to own one.
...until now!
Let's see, ElektroRC has it for...
$98 bucks:

Had I know that the price had dropped that much before I bought my King....ah well.
The Ricco is $154 and is VERY similar to the new Maxir 2008. Main differences is that it uses Aluminum and Carbon-fiber parts instead of mostly fiberglass (making the Ricco a bit sturdier).
I look forward to your review, Chris! Tell us how it improves your backyard fun!
Oh yes, we need a link to the current forum thread on the Ricco:

=== Flybarless ===
It was awesome hearing all of the details from the ATTF team with Aaron on flybarless units, techniques, and advantages. Someday, it really will be as common as a heading-hold gyro!

Good gravy, a modeler could waste a lot of time reading all of the articles at his website! Here is his excellent article on Bell and Hiller heads:

It puts my original post on the matter to shame. It must have hurt RCHeli to lose this guy.
Another awesome (and enabling) show. Thanks, guys!
