Can you tell me the actual length of the fuse side pieces? With that information I should be able to locate the back edge accurately and then just continue the lines to meet them.

Joe, the fuselage side pieces are 29.9" long. And as others already pointed out, I used blue and yellow packing tape on my model. It's not quite as nice looking as paint would have been, but much easier to do and adds strength as well. One secret of using packing tape is to heat shrink it with an iron after you apply it, using a low heat setting. It shrinks up very nicely and gives a smooth finish with no wrinkles (even around curves) if you do that.
