I finally found a home for my Graupner 4:1 Speed Gear. I bought one of the 73" Hacker Sting RTF sailplanes for $39. A perfect mate for my geared Speed 400 system with an 11x8 folding prop and 8 cells of 500A.

They also have 7 cell 600AE packs for $15.00! Now that's a good deal.

I missed out! I've been wanting the Sting to match my power system, didnt even know about the sale until it was sold out. major bummer... :-(

If anybody wants to part with theirs, let me know!

Steve,

Sorry to hear that. Did you check out the Pedro? It is about the same size and shape. Although it wasn't as heavily discounted as the Sting but i'll bet your power system would work fine in it.

Check with Chris True on his thread here in the Sailplanes forum. He could probably help you decide.

I checked out the Graupner "Pitty" on the Hobby Lobby page. I'm looking for a HLG to thermal, as I won't be doing a whole lot of slope flying. Will the "Pitty" suit this purpose?

rt,

Give our buddy in Germany, Jurgen Heilig, an e-mail at the address below. He seems to know plenty about both sailplanes and Graupner products.

Just got the Graupner Cumulus2000 I ordered from their clearance page. It's pretty cool except the mainspar slot in the left wing panel is too short! Aaarrgh! I'll either try and carefully drill it deeper or just shorten the spar by a centimeter. Good deal at $129.

Thanks for the heads up guys!

I just bought a skimmer 400 (to be light and slow for the g/f)
And a low-wing skimmer for me! (480/ 3to 1 box, on 8 cells)
The 600's were a good deal too @ $15 for 7cell packs.

Wish I could have got a few sting's though.

Thanks again
Shawn

My "discontinued item" sailplane arrived today and to my surprise it wasn't a Hacker Sting but rather a Norvel GlassAir 400 ARF Motor Glider.

The ship is almost identicle to the sting in specifications but now I can buy spare parts for it on-line! It can be configured for either a .049-.061 glow or a Speed 400 4:1 Speed Gear with an 11x8 folding prop.

Maybe...just maybe, Hobby Lobby is picking up the GlasAir line in their new Catalog 37. When they ran out of Stings, they substituted it with the Norvel model.
