Amateur Ds Junkies

Well I thought I would start a thread for all us amateur ds junkies. Us guys who love ds'ing whether we are ds'ing our weasel or carbon ship. Us who are not on the list of fastest ds'ers in the world, but just love to do it for the rush and the fun of it.

Not that I have anything against the guys who make the Big Dog list or are trying to go 400 mph. These guys are our mentors, the pros, our inspiration. But I like dsing just to ds. Like golfing just to golf, or surfing just to surf. Just because I can't golf as good as Tiger or surf as good as Slater, it doesn't lessen my enjoyment of the sport, and I love watching and learning from the pro's as well.

So anyway, this thread is dedicated to all the amateur ds'ers out there who are not trying to fly 300 mph, and are thrilled just to dive into any backside no mater what the speed for the fun of the game.

So all are welcome if you love the darkside.

Chris

Ok so my friends and I are having so much fun with the Pep Boys radar gun at our local DS site in Poway, CA they wanted me to keep our speeds in the first post, so we can keep track of them in one place.

Understand this is not about being the fastest in the world. Were talking about a small backside with plane eating six foot bushes in 5-10 mph winds. We are laughing, pushing, talkin smack, and encouraging each other the entire time.

So if you haven't flown faster than 100mph yet (if you have your still an Amateur DS Junkie, but way better than most of us), let us know and we will post it, especial if you break 100 for the first time, and we will add you to the Century Club.

Here is a little video of what I am talking about that I took last Sunday. It is my friends James and Ray ds'ing together on the backside of Poway, just having a blast chasing each other around with their mustang and weasel.

Here is me with my Bird on the same day.

CHRIS DSING POWAY WITH CARBON BIRD (1 min 32 sec)

The crash sound is from a kid on the front side crashing his wing in the bush about 5 feet away from me. I still jump everytime I hear it on the video, because earlier that day I piled my mini blade into the tree/bush at the very bottom of the hill, and on the video that is right where my Bird is when the kid hit the bush.

First time I crashed my composite plane dsing, and it was a spectacular one. I did not realize that I was that low, and right when I was pulling back on the stick POW into the side of the tree. Oh well first time for everything. Composites just don't bounce back like foam does. I will post a picture of the wing damage. when I take it.

Weasel DS is a kick in the pants! I had a blast with mine Friday at Parker after my JW had a servo go south. At 71 mph, the Weasel's fin blew clean off!

And finally last but not least, my buddy Mark the weekend before dsing composite (mini destiny) for the first time at the Bump in Temecula. This guy might go pro!

Yeah I just bought new aileron stock tonight to get my weasel in shape to ds this weekend after seeing Ray have so much fun with his.

That would be a cool part of this thread. what weird planes have you actually ds, like King of the Hill mentioned.

#8 quadshot Jun 10, 2008 11:13 PM

Our problem here in San Diego (esoecially Poway) is not having enough lift to dive in the back. Once you get on the backside you can keep going and going. We spend most our time scratching the frontside with our moths just to get high enough to get a good dive, after that it's cake.

That's were the weasel really shines.

Also I was thinking of getting a bungy to launch with for Poway. That would get is up plenty high and then your golden.

Don't sell yourself short. Every one on the big dog list started out as a amateur. The problem is the faster you go, Just makes you want to go even faster next time. And before you know it, your trying to crack 300mph It will happen to you too. Good luck :) Scott
