New FPV platform @ Hobby Lobby?

http://www.hobby-lobby.com/challenger.htm

Just noticed this, looks pretty big, very ugly but who cares?

Nice find!

And it looks gorgeous - much better than the EZstar if you ask me, but the price... USD 300!!! :-(

You can get it much cheaper here, when it's not out of stock.

Always liked the looks of that one... would be perfect for a combo FPV & aerial photo platform. Id find it tough to do any 'custom' mods to a beautiful #300 kit though...

This one would be fun to FPV... http://www.hobby-lobby.com/twister.htm

I had one. If it's built 'to scale' it's tail heavy as a mofo.

Here a building thread for the KMP Challenger II

The view from the cockpit should be very realistic, the planes is big so it easier to make the canopy look real from inside.
But at 8 pound it's heavy.

Expensive by the time you add lipos, motor, etc...the big cockpit is nice.

What about a Twin Boom made from PVC (hehe :D plug)

Plans, we don't need no stinking plans :D .

I 've been playing with the idea of maybe using something like the Magister's EPP foam wing. That way it would better handle just about any landing or crash along with easy repairs.

The PVC is holding up very well as I have darted into the ground more then once now :o and all it did was flake the paint :) .

Another Idea I have is to have a inner platform that all the FPV gear is attached too like I.F.s OSD, Video TX(s), etc... and when you need to removed the gear just undo a clip, unplug the wiring harness and slide the platform out removing it from the fuselage as one componet ;) . That's what's nice about the big 4" pipe, plenty of room :) .

Yet another thread derailed by me.. at least this one was mine.

Anyway, Crash - i want to see pictures of how you've attached the booms to the wings :D

Sounds like your inner platform should mate with a PC board at the end, sort of like a PCI or ISA slot so you can apply power, get video in/out, r/c channels etc hehe.
