Painting the Aerc F-4 Phantom
I am going to order my Aerc F-4 Phantom soon and I was wondering about how to cover it. I have never built anything with foam wings before and I am worried about melting the foam while covering it, plus I want a camoflage paint scheme.
I was lucking enough to get a very nice airbrush for Christmas and I was wondering if you can paint directly onto the foam? Also is SolarFilm Lite paintable?
The foam wings are paintable and in fact that is what I would recommend to anyone who is worried about melting the foam. Usually any water based paint will work fine on foam but it's a good idea to test it out first - the wings are packed in the excess foam from the cutting so just take a piece of that with you to the store and try it out first - the prototype was covered in RA Microlite which I believe is a paint "infused" cover anyway so painting on it should be ok - not sure how good the paint on top of the glossy cover will look though but to each his own - there has been discussion on sheeting the entire plane which would make painting it very easy but I'm not sure how much weight that would add so the feasability of it may be inexistent. If you have any questions please feel free to ask - aslo you might try posting in this thread from now on and you should see many more responses from other builders:
