FISH & CHIPS "Dumas Osprey"

:) If ever there was a fun boat to build for even a beginner, the DUMAS “OSPREY” has to be the one in spades. The now defunct kit can still probably be found in the back of some hobby shops since the kit was never a big seller for Dumas. The kit was sold usually for around $60.00 and was really quite a deal considering the materials used in the kit were a cut above some of the more expensive Dumas kits. All the planking was birch ply over die-cut frames with a vacuumed formed cabin top. The model is actually a scale model of a 25’ fishing boat of the type seen around Maine. I my self can not under stand why the model did not sell better considering the price and the ability for almost any one to build with little or no assistance.
I fitted out my model with a MACK Products running hardware package made for the Osprey, running with (2) 2400 mil amp battery packs in series to net 14.4 volts, which will give a run time of over 2 ˝ hours at night with the lights on. The model also has an electronic horn (also a MACK item) which can be controlled for the transmitter. The boat is very maneuverable and can turn on a dime and give you change. Need less to say this has been entered a won it’s share of precision steering events. The boat is also very sea worthy with it’s high freeboard which is also true of the full size version as well.
As they say a picture is worth a thousand words so I am posting some running photos to keep “Kmot” happy. :)

Does anyone have suggestions about finishing (painting, varnishing, etc.)? I'd like to start thinking about these before I get there. Thanks!

Sorry to post so many right in a row, and all at once. I have been working on this for a little while now, and just found this thread. I'm just putting these on to get caught up, and from now on will be as I go.

I've now got the floors installed, the hold cover made and am starting to get the decks installed.

The Osprey does look like a great kit- cute boat too! Keep up the thread, Lyman! your options on finish are pretty open since you are using West System epoxy- great stuff!
