Depends on what it weighs, the Hawk was horribly heavy for an EDF. The fuse wasn't half bad but the wing weighed a ton. This is intended for turbine so I have to assume it'll be sturdy :)

The bare airframe shown in the pictures weighs 4.4 lbs. That is with all construction completed (except paint), awaiting hardware and electronics installation.

Already it's considerably lighter than the Hawk was at this point. I think it would do well for EDF.

That's great news Chris. Give us the inlet area and exit measurement if it isn't too much trouble. For EDF just an inlet duct would be needed, maybe even just the section at the front transitioning to round - we can make up the rest easily!

This design was originally built and flown for our Turbax 5" fan many years ago...and did not require an auxillary inlet. The FSA for the turbax is about 15 sq inches. I believe the inlet area is slightly less than that. The ducted fan version of the kit will have the full inlet duct to mate up to the 5" fan as well as the two piece ducted fan exhaust liner. The turbine version has the same inlet only cut back to open up for large sized fuel tanks and will not have the fibreglass exhaust liners as they are not required.

The aircraft in the pictures is essentially the first production prototype. Just requires paint and artwork which are being worked on. The models are being built using traditional build methods (ie. balsa sheeted foam cores which are then fibreglassed) which is helping to keep them light and affordable.

O Yea, I also picked up a set of larry and chris's mini retracts! they have out done themselfs..better than any others.

Thanks guys! I am hopeful someone will do an EDF conversion of the airplane. It really should be a great performer with an EDF.

@Kevin, we are protecting ourselves as best as possible. This aircraft is being built in our own factory overseas...no more middle man. The main gear design is the same as the kit. All of the hardware will be supplied. However, we're offering the initial offering with the scale oleo struts (see picture)...the use the same hardware for retraction as the wire struts.

I've attached a couple other pictures highlighting additional detail.
