Glider for grandkids

1 Attachment(s)
In a fit of boredom after supper last night I decided to build a glider for my grandkids to play with when they visit. It is roughly based on the Thermic 30 solid balsa gliders I use to buy as a kid. They were great fliers and this one seems to do fairly well too.

WS 32" (12" center panel with 10" outter panels...that's higer math for me :o )

Chord is 4"

Boom is 1/4" sq. spruce

Trim on fuselage is 1/32 " ply.

For the airfoil I used a method I have see in this forum. I laminated a second layer of foam on the forward part of the wing and then sanded it to shape.

Bob,i think that's a cool glider.i would take it to the next step and just add a simple 2 ch. system.
if you don't have one,i've got three.
Tx....Rx w/built in ESC and two motors.
if your interested give me a PM.

i would like to send to someone who can use it since it's just collecting dust.thnx,

Angel

Should do the trick. I lost my thermic many years ago. On the first flight. Thermal.

Love the glider!!!

I have so much fun with gliders and my grandkids (3 & 6).

I made up some very simple plans that I can help them build.

They are on flyDPF.com -

Kids love these things!

There's another simple plan that flies great on Bradm's homepage.
Go here and click on the "Free Flight FFF Glider" link.

WOW!!!....Thanks guys, those are great looking planes. I can see that I am going to be busy this evening. My friends have lots of grandkids too. Gotta get them interested in modeling somehow and these seem like a good starting point.

Building the same type of thing for my son. Wallmart glider, electronics from an Estes Skyranger jet. Hope to try it out this weekend. :)

BlackScorpion...Right now it has a two piece wing. There is a plane eating lamp post on my patio that is right in my flight path. :( Here is a cross section view on the wing. Someone in the forum has a thread showing a much neater and probably more efficient version of this. I think I took too much off when I was sanding the bottom part of the airfoil. There are no ribs and I used strip of nylon rienforced tape for a spar.

Mer , I tried to get your cool little glider plans but empty MicEX page came UP ????

#12 BobM1200 Mar 16, 2005 10:51 PM

If MicEX means that little icon with the red square, green circle, and blue triangle then I am having the same problem....with all the downloads I try. Could anyone give me an idea what the problem is.
