Slightly OT but i need help for a scratch built heli fuselage
Hello fellow modellers!
i say slightly OT because i need help not building an airplane but rather building a Fuselage for a Micro Helicopter Tandem.
The Fuselage in question would be a CH47 Chinook. The model is a Dragonfly Tandem Heli, AUW 640g so far. The Fuselage shouldn't weigh a lot more than 100g finished.
it's about 400mm long, 250mm wide and 150mm high...
Now to the problematic part...
I have no idea about scratch building such a Fuselage out of foam...
The Fuselage cross section is quite constant between the 2 pylons, so that might be made with the usual bulkhead and then using thin depron to cover the sides... but other i really have no idea how to go about it.
Any pointers ?

I am not sure that depron would work. Do you know how much spare lift do you have on the heli over its own weigth? Is it enough to lift the depron fuse? The lightest fuse would be a thin plastic vacuformed one such as most RC helis fly with. You can make a foam plug for the fuse and use it a template for the vacuformed one.
Well there is a guy who flies his at around 900g AUW... but it's performance margin is VERY slim then..
Every gramm weight that can be saved is important.. i feel that the heli should be flying fine to about 800g, that leaves about 160g for the fuselage.
why not use soda bottles,make what you want,use plaster make a mold and go from there?
