Hi All,

This is my first attempt to build a balsa wood model. Thanks for your advice so far. Someone suggested I start a build log. I will add pictures to catch you up.

Hi Jeff! Welcome to the forum! Looking NICE so far! Is this your 1st boat build or your 1st "Balsa" boat build?

Thanks for posting your build! I am sure many will be interested and can offer some good tips!

I have wet the balsa hull skins with water and used rubber bands to help shape them to the hull. I have not glued them at this point. This is as far as I've gotten. Hope to glue the skins tomorrow.

Looks very nice. I am glad to see one of the old ones getting built. I must admit I did have Fred Sanford moment when I saw that you had cut apart those old plans.:D:D:D

Hi Jeff!

I also have that kit. So pictures so I can learn as you go :-)

Will you be fibreglassing the hull?

Geoff (different spelling).

I don't have a motor for this. I guess this will be a shelf model. So I'm not sure i need to get into fiberglassing the hull unless someone can tell me otherwise.

I would also like to ask what you think of the two products, Midwest aero glass and Hobbilite balsa colored filler. For any balsa parts (not Mahogany parts) of the boat that will be painted. I guess I fill imperfections with filler, sand, apply Midwest Aero Glass, sand between coats more Aero Glass and then paint solid colors. I plan to paint the hull white and the roof

Comments would be appreciated.

Aero Gloss !

Long time no see ( try to avoid breathing that stuff ! )

This will be Fun to watch !

Both. First boat build, first balsa build. I actually have not built a model of any type since I was a kid Around 40 years ago.
My youngest is just off to college so now I have time for hobbies
