Name that Sailplane : Style vs. Performance

I was reading the thread about the Bird of Time and after reading some of the comments, it got me thinking. If you have been flying RC Sailplanes for a while now, is there one particular sailplane, that one, above all other's that you just love looking at in the sky ?? And if it happens that the performance and flying qualities are not all that great, well, that's OK, because it's so damn beautiful in the air ?? What sailplane would that be ??

This one. Called an Easy Riser built in '83 from a kit I bought while stationed in Germany. Something about the way the nose droops and the proportions just looks good to me.

I'll second (or third) the Legion Airs, I had a 140 until it went away. The BOT is one of my faves too making the Frank ZaicThermic 100 heritage very apparent with Wolf wing planform and semi-elliptical empennage, a good mix of vintage shapes with modern construction to adapt to R/C operation. I suppose the Albatros Classic will be the new BOT now and it's heritage is clear also.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, Sagitta 900.

Surely there is no need for me to actually say it..... after all, I am completely unrepentant.

:D

HI LV. It's a great floater!
My vote for another floater, perhaps not as effective as a ... Paragon, now I've said it, :) would be a Windrifter, speaking from personal experience.

I'm with Kurt Z....ain't nothin' like a Sagitta with transparent color covering!

Mike Lee
Did the product review of the Sagitta 900 for M.A.N. in 1980.

My 2 Cents

Here's my list:
  • Windsong - simply Dodgson's best
  • Windfree - a 2 channel ballerina
  • Tie: Magnum 12 and any span Sagitta
  • Legionnaire (Any Span)
  • Bird of Time (or any of its derivatives)
  • And, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder and form follows function, any Shuttle but the 2M version
