Wind - Give me more

Really windy today. Gusty and shifting, according to the NWS, up to 25. So I abandoned my recent regime of diligently practicing straight and level or simple maneuvers, took out the T-28 and just flew.

Just a little aileron on the upwind leg and the plane vaults into the turn. Then fighting upwind again, reacting to every little gust and vortex coming off the trees. Reminds me of the crows I sometimes see tumbling and playing on the currents near buildings on windy days. What a thrill. I won't curse windy days now.

I prefer calm days, but I would lose a lot of flight time if I never flew when it was windy.

i had the wind high enough once when my t28 was just a kite. yeah, windy days are definitely more fun although sometimes you think "what am i doing out here?"

I hate flying in turbulent high winds. Sure it can be done, and in a way it's quite exciting I guess, but for me it's not fun and all too easy to crash on landing, no matter how good you are. Only time i liked wind is when I used to fly slope soarers.

I wish there was a way I could send you my windy days in exchange for your calm ones, then we would both be happy:rolleyes:

Wind can be exciting to fly in sometimes but it's sure not relaxing so I usually prefer no wind, or maybe a light but steady wind to help shorten the landings of a couple of my hotter planes.

I like wind with epp and no landing gear. Etracts bend or brake too much I have flown when the planes won't stay still on the ground. Almost gettin broke pushed against something.

Wind - Give me more ?

Have you tried beans ?.

They're similar to a ducted fan, (small exhaust, high velocity outlet). ;)

Majority of my RC plane flights have been in wind. Have come to love it. Flying in calm with my present models is much more boring. The wind is like a berm you can blast against and make the plane fly in ways it normally cant.
Very much looking to buy a foamie 3D for the calm days. Cool you had fun today in zee wind!!!!

I'll just say that I own more slope planes than powered planes and leave it at that. ;)

You want more wind than Chicago?

Buy yourself a 700 size heli. Wind, what wind???

#12 Neko Jan 13, 2013 10:51 PM

Not sayin' I prefer windy days. But at least I can enjoy them now. I was indeed flying without gear. Much easier landing.

Someone told me Chicago is called the Windy City because of the politics, not the weather. Not sure if I believe it...

Agreed, Wopachop. Or like surfing off the face of a wave.
