Couch Flyer

1 Attachment(s)
Aaah, love the holidays! A very brief opportunity to build something.

AUW 2.9g
12" WS
36 sq.in. wing area
0.41oz/sq.ft. wing loading
Deltang RX52M Recv, 3-ch RET
20mah Bahoma battery
Plantraco Micro Butterfly Motor/Prop/Nanoacts
Construction: Balsa, various sizes of carbon rod, Durobatics rudder & elevator
Covering: 2um thick clear covering from Homefly.com
Silver Sharpie over balsa

Brief flight report: Very slow, a little underpowered, nice handling as long as don't put it into a dive: the sacrifices of going super light.

Video: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showa...0&d=1356398698

For comparison it is next to my Carbon Butterfly:

Looks great! Good to see LRF's again.

Thanks Guys,

Derk, the gear weight (RX52M, 2 nanoacts, motor/prop, 20mah bahoma) are a whopping 2.1 grams :). The airframe is 0.8 gram.

Improved Couch Flyer

5 Attachment(s)
Had to re-do the wing. It flexed too much and affected flight.

Went with the proven Kolibri/Vapor/Carbon Butterfly style wing and now have much improved flight performance - more wing area, lower wing loading, and lighter weight now at 2.8 grams AUW.

It's at 0.367 oz./sq. ft. wing loading now :D. I'm really happy, it's an incredible small space flyer!

very nice, is the piece holding the dihedral another piece of carbon fiber, or is it some kind of line?

That's to bad, I loved the looks of the old wing. Very cool looking almost like a flying elevator.

Haha! It's couch potato flying season now :D. A childhood/adulthood dream of mine has always been to be able to fly a remote control plane in front of the TV.

Very nice, but why did you land on the table? Now you'll have to sit up to retrieve the plane.

Time to work on lap landings! Just remember to chop the throttle.

;). Pete
