Standalone capacitive switch

6 Attachment(s)
Hello DIYers

Does anyone need a capacitive switch for a project?
Here is one I built, It can be configured on the fly to be a momentary/toggle switch.
Here is the operation video:
Capacitive proximity Switch PCB sensor module (2 min 39 sec)

If you're interested, It's on sale through ebay

Thanks

Any feedback? I would like to hear your comments/tips/ideas about this switch?

The switch will activate with a wood overlay as thick as 12mm, and there is possiblity of attaching an external sensor.

Pretty cool!

A lot of PICs now have capacitive switch capability built in. I've just never thought up a good use for it.

If you set it up to detect motion/gestures it might be useful for some sort of control project.

Microchip has a 3D gesture technology out there now. It makes the touch screen look like 1960's technology.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for the comment. Yes, this board has a provision to do motion dection/sensing with an external sensor. I can provide that sensor wired to the board or you could do it yourself (See attachement)

Andy, thanks for the pointer. I will look into this in my next project.
