SantaBarbara Detail pictures,build assistance
I am just starting a Santa Barbara sailboat. I would appreciate build photographs and, if possible, contacts for questions. Regards, Wayne
I just finished about two months ago my boat from a bare hull.
What stage of construction are you starting from.
Check out the Santa Barbara thread. Ryan
not sure if these links will work, they are from the www.theamya.org site, at
the Santa Barbara tab.the links DO work when clicked on there...
are you up in Door County then ?
I think you will find there are way fewer people that have actually built a S/B
than own/sail one (including me) it seems that most finished boats are just
sold/traded between club members. and then, those that have built AND have
any photo documentation of the build, rarer still I think.
This Rich Matt article is still the standard I believe .
Active S/B clubs are in San Diego,San Fransisco and Chicago.you could try
and directly contact them--but we all DO watch the S/B thread here.
I guess it's more a case of who would have pictures or not, more than lack
of interest in another hull being built.
may I ask where you got a S/B hull from ?

I really appreciate you response.
The hull is from Loyalhanna Dockyard-Taubman Plans-Hartman Models.
I had reviewed the references you supplied. A member of the Chicago RC Model Yacht Club had suggested your information as well.
Your observations regarding the lack of active builders confirms my experiences so far. The AMYA outline is invaluable. So far I have been studying those articles, getting the big picture if you will.
The folks at Loyalhanna seem willing to answer questions,at least according to my contacts at this time.
Thank you for suggesting the San Diego,Frisco groups. I will look them up.
Ryan is also on my list.
Again, thank you Alan and Ryan.
I will be in touch as this process develops.
ps I am between Milwaukee and Door
My father and I have spent a lot of time with the Santa Barbara boats. We are now authorized suppliers for hulls, keels and rudders. In getting to this stage we have done a ton of research for building, and found that the plans and build articles found in the AMYA Santa Barbarab website to be the best source for build instructions. Dad is currently building a boat form the hull up (along with one of our other club members) to see what can be improved upon. If you have any questions that we can help with feel free to ask.
Dan and Bill are great resources. I have see their hulls and keels, etc. They build a quality product. Ryan
Hi Wayne, I read your email you sent to our club at our last club meeting, and everybody said the same thing, we have to know what you are having trouble with, just let us know, I think your Loyalhanna hull is a Hartman hull, the Hartman molds went to Loyalhanna, the last S/B hull I did was a Hartman hull, you have my phone #, give me a call, like I said in my email I'll do all I can to help, I have been building RC boats for over 50 years

Dad and I got together today and discussed some way of helping you. We have copies of most of the build instructoins for the Santa Barbara. Dad is going to try to get over to Fed Ex (Kinkos) and see if he can get most if not all scanned into a pdf format that can be sent by e-mail or put on disc to send to you. Let me know if this will help.
Do let us know how you are doing and what you need help with. Ryan
I am very appreciative for the offerings of assistance from Allan,Ryan,Dan,Bill and John, way more than I had anticipated, My S/B build will take a break for the holiday season.
All the best in 2013,
We have a few S/B's in our club as well. Mine (an old Vortex semi kit) is still in a box in the basement, but I do have the manual. And I'm in MIlwaukee!
