Flying boat kits

Are there any traditional (balsa ply etc) flying boat kits available? Was originally looking for a CL-215 or 415 kit (which I can't even find) but would love to see all that's available ... all I seem to be able to find are plans! Help anyone?

I designed a CL-415 (72" span, electric power) and the plan, a short kit and cowl mouldings are available from RC Models magazine.

It was the best flying model I have designed and flew wonderfully from water and grass. The structure is lightweight and based on the seaplane designs of Ivan Pettigrew. It's not suitable for engines, only motors.

I said "was." A simple pilot malfunction (the battery slid to the rear of the battery bay due to my not strapping it in properly) reduced the plane to scrap after a series of increasingly heart-stopping moments. But during it's 3-year life it gave me very great pleasure.

Good to know that's an option, Mike! What was flying weight and what components (batteries, motors etc) made up that weight? (if you can remember of course!)

Thanks!

Colin.

PS Still looking for other options guys! ;)

The details of the model and the build are here. which will be more accurate than me just guessing.

I used a 3-cell 3900mAh battery and the flying weight (I just checked with my build log) was 4.5lbs - 10 oz/sq ft. A real floater in other words!

Here's the wood pack details from the magazine - http://www.trapletshop.com/gb/p/1326...dier-cl-415-72 - it's RC Model World, a UK magazine.

Kits

Wollins,
Here are a couple options for kits depending on what size your looking for. Number 1 is an Anderson Kingfisher at 48"
Number 2 we have a 96.6" span Grumman Albatross
and finally for the small puddle in the back yard there is a mini Drake following the lines of the Ken Willard design.
We are on the final testing phases of the Kingfisher and that will be available soon. We need to do the instructions manual for the Albatross and that will be ready for sale. The Mini Drake can be found here http://www.parkscalemodels.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=73
Here is a link to the KingFisher thread here on RCG as well as for the Albatross
