Do the plans and wood look useable?

#3 georgewaldrop Nov 12, 2012 10:23 PM

Got any pics, specs? I remember the Schoolboy, but can't remember the specs...TIA.

Have a Blessed Day!
George

Never mind the specs, Google helped me find them! approx 36" span for the small cox engines, Ken Willard design...

36" span sounds good, what is your best price shipped to Scribner, Nebraska 68057?
I am on Social Security Disability, and am a newbie to kits.

the wood is in excellent shape.
the rubber band used for free flight is still in great shape.
and the plans are perfect.

I'll start it off, $50 shipped.
I see you just joined, are you rated anywhere else?

sorry im not i joined just to sell this plane to the right crowd.
it was passed to me from a relative about 10 years ago and has been in the top of my closet since. i know ill never get around to do with it its full beauty so, here i am.
when i emailed top flight about it i was told that it was produced mid to late 70's and retailed at $155 to $195. ill post some pics shortly...

Whoever at Top Flite may not be aware of what this plane is. It never retailed for that much and it was made in the mid to late 60s, I believe. Someone of my vintage will chime in to verify or say I'm wrong. Current value is $50 - $150 depending on the buyer. This kit is a bit of RC history and I LOVE the old stuff.

thats the reason im here and not trying to sell it on craigslist, the history.
this item is worth every cent of 150 just because of its condition.
???

Worth it, if someone will pay it. Did you post this on electric and fuel F/S as well? Couldn't hurt. RCU has a airplane-classic F/S forum too.

I'd like to have it cause it's from my youth, but won't 'steal' it just cause you may not know better places to post the sale.

hey thanks for the advice.

Have you sold it?

#15 johnbyrne Nov 16, 2012 11:05 AM

Ah yea, Ken Willard, loved his articles in RCM. Was really sad when he passed. Ken would never build a large airplane. He like small planes which is what this is.

I'll go out on a limb and make a statement that may be wrong (but I think I am right) but I honestly do not believe the value of this kit is anywhere near $150. I'm not looking to purchase it btw, I'm just being honest. With that said, people pay more for things than they are worth all the time so you may get that but I'd be very surprised. I'd be surprised if you got $100 in fact. This is a kit that can be scratch built in one evening given the size and complexity and one that is really not in much demand. It would make a decent electric conversion I'd think but nothing really special. This kit probably sold for more like $20 or perhaps less regardless of what TF told you. Kits were just not that much back then. In the 80s for example you could get just about anything for under $100 and many under $50.

No one is going to purchase it for any price without pictures but even with pictures in perfect condition, I'd not pay more than $50 shipped. (again, not an offer, not trying to buy). Probably best bet is to get some really good pictures and put it on Ebay and cross your fingers. Maybe a couple of folks will get into a bidding war .. or better yet call Top Flight and tell them you will sell it to them for $150 shipped so they can have a piece of their own history. Hey, they said it was worth more than that so it is a steal for them lol.

Hope this helps and certainly not trying to knock you. Hope you get what you need from it.
