Hello!

I just completed a successful test flight (sorry, no video yet) of my newly designed coroplast electric R/C airplane and put up a blog post showing how to build it.

I would appreciate any feedback, I was actually very surprised that it flew so well as I did not start from a tested plan.:D

Features:
1 18x24" reclaimed corrugated plastic sign
1 Plastic Odwalla bottle
3 dowels
2 servos controlling Ailerons and Elevators separately.

After the elections, I am going to run about getting all the co-bama-plast and co-romney-plast I can... for precisely this purpose :D

That is a pretty nifty little plane design. Post a video of it flying, if you get a chance.
Yeah I do go around and scarf up a few of the signs after the election too. I like to get a few of those big 4x8 foot signs too.

So as we re-purpose the signs, are the Obama signs for the left wing and the Romney signs for the right wing? I want to make sure it flies straight.....

The day after the election is a great time to help out the campaign organizations by helping to clean up after, and scarf up some political signs too.
It doesn't matter which side's signs you take either.

I got 3 right now so I figure that would do me for now. After looking at spadtothebone.com and seeing all the plans there and how easy it is I went and got some.

I'm just a little lost on a few things when it comes to buildig them.

Cool! That's a plane I'd like to see. Definitely good for a laugh.;)
Too bad those signs are 4mm and not 2mm for the wings.

I built an FNS using 4mm standard 18x24 signs using the RNAF technique and it flew just fine. I routed out a 3/8" groove on the top piece so it would fold over and it worked with no problems.

New User, if you're just getting started, you might like to try out the FNS or FNS-40 if you've got an old .40 engine laying around somewhere. The FNS is really simple to build and amazingly agile for just a rudder controlled plane. There's so much dihedral in the wing they'll turn on a dime and with having no ailerons, you can build the wing in about a half hour.

Well I was looking at building a flat wing because I already have my trainers. Plus I was looking at doing electric but I have an .40 or .46 that hasn't ran in about 5 years.

I think the biggest thing is the main wing and the shape(like the airfoil) and do I have to angle the motor or engine any?

I'm looking at building one of the buhor models.

No you don't have to angle the motor. Some of the plans say to, but pretty much everyone builds everything straight now. A lot of folks use the BUHOR with the flat wing for a sport plane. If you wanted a faster roll rate, you could probably chop a couple inches off the end of each wing without hurting anything other than increasing your wing loading a bit. If you build it straight to plans, you'll get a nice airfoil like they show in the plans. If you wanted a symmetrical airfoil, you can glue the trailing edge first, then slide the spar in and get it where you want it, and then drizzle CA down the wing where it meets the spar.

So will there be any adverse effect for mounting it straight compare to an angle?

Also flat wing as in no airfoil just cut the wing and mount it?

I thought you meant flat wing as in no dihedral. :) You must be talking flat as in the QHor, Gnat or Spa3D. I've never seen anyone make a BUHOR with a flat wing and no airfoil.

As for engine angle, I've never seen enough of a problem to worry about the offset, but I'm not the most graceful flyer out there. :) Most everyone on spadworld.net just recommends to mount the engines straight so that's what I started doing and it's worked out ok for me.
