Sr Telemaster electrified
Picked up a high mileage old gas telemaster last week. Has the rubber band held wing setup. Wanted to do a quick electric swap over on the old lady. Installed an Exceed RC Rocket 4120-515KV Brushless Motor. Things rated at 1700watts. Im using a cheapy 100a hobbywing esc and a 5 cell 5000mah turnigy pack. Servos are all orange HK units. Used 4" standoff's and thread rod as the motor mount. Looks aside she flies like a dream once airborne. My question for everyone is how do I go about adding a gyro to the rudder for take offs? She wants to go one way or another on me when i start to gain speed.

Just pick up a gyro and mount it with the correct orientation. You connect your rudder servo to the gyro, and the gyro to the rudder port.

Some inexpensive gyros (they will work fine) have the gyro gain on the gyro-however most gyros have the gain control on the transmitter. So, you will need an extra channel open so you can control the gyro gain from a knob on your transmitter.

It's easy to check if it works-wag the plane back and forth, and watch the rudder compensate. Adjust the gain for the sensitivity you would like.

probably where your landing gear are mounted. Fix the problem, don't band aide it.

its not the best looking plane lol. Rather beat up looking but flies like a dream. I figured I would do all the cosmetic fix ups and recovering after I knew it was airworthy and had all the bugs worked out.

Evan D is spot on with what he is suggesting. Any tail dragger could have handling problems if the main gear is located in the wrong spot, or a spot that puts to much plane behind the main gear. The closer the gear is to the CG with out tipping the better it handles on the ground. Also some are just not that good with the left thumb and a gyro really helps with that:):):):).

All of my tail draggers with handling problems were due to main gear placement.

Or alignment.

The Sr. Telemaster is a very good plane to train the left hand on.

try throttling up nice and slow, you'll still need rudder, but it'll be less sudden and easier to control. You might need expo on the rudder to keep from wagging like a fish on takeoff.

If you use a gyro make sure you have a way to turn it off in-flight.

Adding expo on the rudder is prolly a good idea. Im going to install the gyro this week and just have it switched on or off for takeoff

We had a SR. Tele with a hot 6s setup,somewhere in the 1500 watt area.

A word of caution... our wings folded up when doing a power on loop. It was an older kit with no wing struts.

The prop chopped the wings up like confetti,looked like fireworks. So hilarious at the time,but I miss that plane.

Im not even going to attempt a loop. Dont trust all that weight on rubberbands
