16/45/1.5RCE 1985kv and 6x10 prop ?

Mega 16/45/1.5RCE 1985kv
5s 55C 2200mah lipos
DownUnders NEW 6x10 folding + 30mm Aeronaut spinner

Trying to guess numbers ? to much ? how much ?

Not for everyday sportflying or F5D pylon flying, more for a 3-5 seconds burts top speed F5D flight..

What do you think ?

Seebe,
The numbers actually look pretty good on 4S for F5D, 64A, 225 mph pitch speed, ~25000rpm.
5S is another story 90A, 265 mph pitch speed and 27000 prm.

Yepp, maybee... I wunder where those numbers where on DownUnders 7x10 prop,, have to find them, as the 7x10 will give some numbers to step down to the 6x10..

This is Down unders own tests:

Hey I just did a test flight on 8S / 4KW, they passed !!

BTW, I tested my folders at 2.3KW yesterday, they went great, Ninja 6s lipo

Here's a quick video of a test pass with my CHICK running my new folders. Very quiet! Not bad for 3S :-)
It's the Turnigy 3648-1450KV
So far they have survived 2KW

Ok, the last one says 1450 kv and 2kw on a 3s ?

he also did some test on his Ninja, what kv is that motor ? he did get 2.3kw on 6s with the 7x10 folder....

he used hub 42mm ? I think..

I also think Thekid used Mega 16/40/2 1595kv on a 6.5x10 apc prop in his Escape Pylon, on 4s, dont remember the Amps... but he did get good speed for the input which I think was 900 watts ?

edit:

Mega 16/40/2 1595kv With the 6.5x10 I am at ~500W on 3s, ~900W on 4s (and 18k RPM), and 5s is yet to be seen

Ok, so now we have some numbers to work from..

Terry, your numbers : 4S for F5D, 64A dont match what thekid did get, he got 900 watts on his 1595kv megamotor on 4s, shouldnt the much higher kv mega 16/45/1.5RCE take much more amps on 4s ?, as I think the 6x10 folding must draw similar to the cutdown 6.5x10 apc...

Sebbe,

3-5b seconds were not enough to reach top speed

ok, then maybee 5-8 seconds... :)

From what I have found, all props in the power levels we are using take a minimum of 8 seconds to get to speed,so if you can not hold the plane WOT for atleast 15 to 30 seconds,it's just not fun.60 seconds WOT is a lot more fun then a faster plane for 15 seconds.

Its tricky to get right numbers with a known motor, maybee it will be more easy if descide which prop and how many lipos, then try to get what KV I need ?

Looking at the numbers on DownUnders 7x10 shows higher then I first thought of, I dont know how much less the 6x10 will draw, but it seems like almost same prop in shape and airfoil just 1" shorter, is that right DownUnder ?

Hey Sebbe, my Ninja runs a Scorpion 4020-1100KV motor, and it's ~140-160A on 8S with the 7x10 folders.

I am moving up to the 6x10's for 9S, I estimate the current will be almost the same, but more RPM so more pitch speed :)

The 6x10 blades are IMO optimised more than the 7x10, (they are both based on the APC 7x10) from the point of view that the 6x10's are lots thinner and sharper at each edge. Also the hub is slightly less bulky and I tried very hard to make it more aerodrnamic in this area, to save a few amps !

Edit:
Also, the hub was 42mm. I have no data on the Turnigy 3648-1450 on the 7x10's, I'm guessing 600-800 watts though, maybe 60A.

Also on 6S with the scorpion 4020-1100, the 7x10's drew 100A.

OK, thanks Dean, will see how my estimation goes from here, not easy with props that has not been tested yet.....

Remember, put away one 6x10 for me when you can ;)

#13 sebbe Oct 07, 2012 11:56 AM

Thinking of it , almost 2000kv motor on 10" pitch, thats like 4000kv motor on 5" pitch, that is much on 5s....

maybee the amps will be VERY high. TO high for that mega motor ??

Seebe,

KV is KV so long as the manufacturers are correct so we have a good starting place with Dougs numbers. I believe his miniPyro is 1400 and if u dig back through you can see what his results are for 4S and 5S.

I kind of like where your going with this and it has me thinking that rather than chop the nose of my X, just get another Neu motor (can use the same motor mount) at 1500 or 1600 KV. I would like to stay 4S if I can.

Terry

exactly the same thinking as I have.... Putting in the biggest 28mm inrunner and go folding... I would rather go your KV with 7" props, but I have an option getting a mega like above, so I figured the 6x10 maybee would be perfect, but seems a bit to hot :D will be difficult get cooling over that motor running ++100Amps..

yes it would be pretty easy if I shuld go for 1200-1600kv motors, as I can compare to dougs minipyro, but the 1985kv is much more difficult to assume what power will be from the 6x10 prop..

The only real test I have to compare is Thekids: mega 16/40/2 on a 6.5x10 apc on 4s... this is from here I have to do my calculations..
